As promised, I am posting some of my goals for 2009.
1) Continue living within or below our means. Except for our mortgage, we have no other debt. This was not always the case, but we've worked hard to get to this point. Keeping our monthly expenses low allows us to enjoy life and be free from financial stress. We don't drive the newest cars, but it feels so good knowing they are paid for.
2) Continue recycling and encourage others to do the same. I started one year ago and am amazed at how many reusable items my family was throwing away. I recycle paper, magazines, newspapers, plastic bottles, plastic bags, cans and glass bottles. I take the items to the recycling center near my home every week. It feels SO good to help out in this small way!
3) Rent condo or cottage at the beach for three or four weeks. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I am an avid traveler and have had the pleasure of seeing many beautiful places all over the world. I cannot wait to take my son to the beach for three or four weeks this summer and create memories that will last a lifetime. If everything works out, my husband will join us for atleast one week.
4) Stick to our food budget. Every month I end up spending most of my blow money on eating out. I've come a long way this past year and have been cooking at home more often. I want to cook at home even more this year because it is less expensive and healthier for our family.

5) Increase charitable giving. I want to give more to charity-both money and volunteering of my time.
What are some of your goals for the new year? Please share and let's encourage each other throughout the year.

I think these are fabulous goals! Leo and I are in the same boat and knowing that we will constantly need to reapply for a mortgage really keeps things in check, also. We do not drive new cars but know, too, that they are paid for in full. As long as the military keeps us moving... things will always be in check for us! We are inspired to recycle but are finding our drop off locations limited here... still searching, though. I think they are FABULOUS goals!!!! Best Wishes in 2009!
Great goals girl :)
We need to talk more about the recycling thing. I don't want to do it for any other reason besides wanting to teach Noah and Syd how to care for the environment. Noah loves that stuff and we should do more. I always feel guilty when I toss my detergent/milk jugs in the trash can knowing I could do more. Mary sent me a link for what Grapevine takes, so lets talk :) lol
I can't wait to start recycling. My step dad made a comment when here for Christmas about recycling and this article that would scare the heck out of me if I read it (need to get that article) and that it will truly help Cameron's world/future if we were to recycle (he is a chemistry teacher and scientist so you can imagine what he reads...LOL...then I read your blog and was like, ok, I will ask Sara about it and get it going. We already have a huge bag of stuff to take. Excited to do it and feel like we are contributing to the environment.
